In the context of the World Hydropower Congress that took place in Paris from 14 to 16 May 2019, Manushya Foundation joined an international coalition of more than 250 civil society organisations to warn against the dangers of hydropower dams in a joint letter released on 13 May 2019. 

 

The statement urges governments, businesses and international financial institutions to put an end to the implementation of hydroelectric dam projects, highlighting the harmful impact they have on the environment and local communities (especially indigenous peoples), their failure to comply with international climate agreements and to achieve sustainable development.
