Thai Human Rights Research Intern

Description of Duties & Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Senior Advisor, the intern would be based with Manushya Foundation,
in Bangkok, Thailand, or would be home-based, and would primarily support translation and research
related to human rights challenges in Cambodia, Laos, Nepal and Thailand:
• Conduct research and analysis on the human rights situation in Asia, in particular: research and
writing on human rights and development issues of marginalised groups in Cambodia, Laos, Nepal
and Thailand;
• Prepare case studies for advocacy purposes at the national and international level;
• Support the development of concept notes, policy papers, and contribute to knowledge products for
Cambodia, Laos, Nepal and Thailand;
• Support awareness raising on human rights issues, including: updates to Manushya Foundations’
social media; development of blog posts and website stories;
• Assist in translating documents and social media content from English into Thai and vice versa;
• Update terminology database and keep glossaries of technical terms;
• Support all aspects leading up to consultations and workshops, including collaborating with regional
and national partners on the agenda and organisation of meetings, among other administrative
tasks;
• Assist in any other relevant tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Starting date: The intern is expected to start as soon as possible.

Job Opportunities

 

 

Video Editor

 

Summary

The job can be either home-based (with weekly meetings/check-ups at our office to follow-up on deliverables) or based at our office in Bangkok. The Video Editor will primarily edit and shoot videos both in Thai and English language for the organisation’s YouTube Channel and other social media platforms, as well as photograph and shoot videos of Manushya’s events and project activities. The Video Editor will work in close collaboration with Executive Director, Communications team and Project team. The Video Editor will undertake the following tasks:

  • Making short videos to be featured on Manushya’s website and social media platforms (YouTube, Facebook, Twitter);

  • Editing videos of all footage filmed during Manushya’s past events;

  • Adding sound effects to videos;

  • Translating videos from English to Thai and vice versa, and adding subtitles to videos;

  • Collaborating with the team for the creation of video scripts;

  • Managing equipment for videos and photos;

  • Setting-up and operating audio-visual/multimedia equipment on an on-call basis at varied locations (in case of events);

  • Shooting videos of Manushya’s events and project activities, when required;

  • Photographing Manushya’s events, when required;

  • Ensuring videos are precise and engaging;

  • Ensuring every video meets with Manushya’s identity (as well as our vision and mission) and is delivered on time;

  • Helping the Communications Team in developing a ʺVideo Strategyʺ for our social media platforms;

  • Generating creative ideas for new video projects.

Selection Criteria

The successful candidate(s) is required to meet the following criteria:

Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

  • Graduated or Currently enrolled at an accredited college/university pursuing a Degree in relevant field (Communication, Media Studies, Film Studies); otherwise, relevant experiences or other backgrounds may be considered on an individual basis;

  • Creativity: have creative techniques and ideas to tell powerful stories;

  • Knowledge of social media platforms (YouTube, Facebook, Twitter) and experience in editing social media content;

  • Knowledge of using photography/video equipment;

  • Knowledge of operating audio equipment (especially for interviews);

  • Ability to carry video-equipment and shoot videos at different locations;

  • Knowledge of lighting is a plus;

  • Experience/knowledge of video editing software (e.g. Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut);

  • Knowledge of sound mixing welcomed, as well as access to sound-mixing software (and experience in using them);

  • Cultural sensitivity;

  • Good communication skills and ability to work in a multicultural and multilingual environments;

  • Ability to work in close coordination with other team members;

  • Excellent oral and written Thai and English;

  • Flexible and available to work on an on-call basis;

  • Capacity to work independently and proactively;

Human Rights Research Intern

Description of Duties & Responsibilities

  • Knowledge of Thai is an asset.

 

Internship conditions

 

The internship is full time for a period of three to six months. The internship is not paid. However, the internship can develop into a volunteer position, which would be remunerated.

Video Editing & Media Intern (Thailand)

 

Description of Duties & Responsibilities

 

This internship opportunity is available with two options: video editing only or video editing and media. The Video Editing intern would be based with Manushya Foundation in Bangkok, Thailand, or could be home-based, and would primarily edit videos both in Thai and English language for the organisation’s YouTube Channel and other social media platforms, as well as photograph and shoot videos of Manushya’s events.   • Assist in developing social media content (Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Instagram etc.), promote the work of Manushya Foundation on social media, and  garner users to follow/like Manushya Foundation;​

  • Update the website to build Manushya Foundation’s web presence (knowledge of Wordpress is critical);

  • Develop Manushya’s newsletter on Mailchimp;​

  • Create infographics and daily posts for social media; ​

  • Participate in the design of publications using CANVA and InDesign;​

  • Edit videos on the work of Manushya Foundation and add subtitles to them;​

  • Liaising with media contacts and to keep media informed of the work of Manushya Foundation;  ​

  • Support administrative aspects leading up to consultations and workshops including collaborating with regional and national partners on the agenda and organisation of meetings, among other administrative tasks;​

  • Assist in any other relevant tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Profile needed

Finally, s/he will be deeply involved in the implementation of international human rights obligations on the ground and experience a first-hand insight into the work and functioning of a small NGO.

  • Degree in communications, development, human rights, international relations, or any related field;

  • Interest in international human rights mechanisms and the United Nations system;

  • Experience in communications, social media, and/or web development; knowledge of Wordpress and CANVA is critical;

  • Strong analytical skills and dedication;

  • Very good command of oral and written English;

  • Experience working on human rights issues is a strong asset.
