Everything You Need to Know About #WhatsHappeningInThailand
Overview of the Human Rights Situation in Thailand ahead of its Fourth Universal Periodic Review Cycle (UPR IV)
From Grassroots Resistance
to Global Accountability
Thailand’s human rights record must be told by the people living with its consequences.
On 9 November 2026, Thailand will be reviewed by UN Member States on its human rights record during its Fourth Universal Periodic Review (UPR IV) taking place at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva (39th Session of the UPR Working Group).
To reclaim power and reveal #WhatsReallyHappeningInThailand, these advocacy factsheets bring community evidence, lived experience, and concrete demands to Thailand's UPR IV. They were developed by Manushya Foundation, members of the Thai CSOs Coalition for the UPR and UN Mechanisms, and civil society partners to challenge official accounts that leave people’s struggles out of view. Together, they document violations of civil and political rights; economic, social, cultural and environmental rights; and the rights of marginalized communities facing discrimination and exclusion.
The collection is the culmination of a year-long feminist movement-building process. Across regional workshops in Hat Yai, Khon Kaen, Chiang Mai and Bangkok, over 350 grassroots leaders, human rights defenders, and civil society allies from diverse networks came together to share evidence, connect struggles and shape advocacy priorities. Their voices belong at the heart of the international scrutiny Thailand now faces. These factsheets, carry that collective work forward, with communities’ own analyses and recommendations at their centre.
