A Year at Manushya: 2020 Roundup!

The first week of 2021 is over! Can you believe that? We have no doubt that 2021 is going to be another challenging but exciting year for us. But before we tackle this year, let’s take a look back at our work and achievements in 2020!

2020 was truly the year of the unexpected, with COVID-19 and its huge impact on every aspect of our lives, the pro-democracy movement in Thailand, the rising threat of authoritarian laws in the online space not only in Thailand but in the whole South East Asia region, and not to mention the worrying increased human rights violations.

At Manushya Foundation, we have done our best to rise to the challenges that came with the year 2020. We focused on supporting our community partners during the difficult time in COVID-19 lockdown, as partnered with Bangkok Soap Opera to deliver organic soaps and clothes to indigenous communities and farmers. We joined the pro-democracy movement and raised awareness on Youth protesters’ demands to tell the World #WhatsHappeningInThailand! We also focused particularly on the rising digital dictatorship and the constant online threats by authoritarian governments, by launching the #StopDigitalDictatorship Campaign with key regional partners working with grassroots communities on the ground. We built the capacity of more than 180 local communities on UN Human Rights mechanisms so they could seek justice at the international level, as the Thai government has failed them. We reinforced our goal to engage with marginalized women and Youth by ensuring they are key contributors to all our work.

With the world turning more and more digital, we have become more active online on our social media platforms; creating more content and reaching out to a wider audience in order to speak truth to power and build greater awareness on the most challenging human rights issues! And thanks to all of your support online, we were able to do just that! Thank you everyone for following us, sharing our content, and supporting us!

We would also like to thank our community partners for being with us and supporting us in our work throughout the year 2020, we could not have made it without any of your support. And lastly, thank you Manushya team, and all the amazing interns supporting our work in Bangkok and remotely, for all your hard work and contribution! Nothing would be possible without you and we were able to create some great memories and achieve our goals!
