On 4 September 2025, the Nepali government banned Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube & more — silencing millions under the excuse of “misinformation.” But the 𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮 𝗯𝗮𝗻 was just the tip of the iceberg. 𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀, 𝗡𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗹𝗶 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗿𝘂𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗴𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀.

From 5–8 September 2025, Gen-Z led massive nationwide protests — chanting:👉 “𝑺𝒉𝒖𝒕 𝒅𝒐𝒘𝒏 𝒄𝒐𝒓𝒓𝒖𝒑𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏, 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒔𝒐𝒄𝒊𝒂𝒍 𝒎𝒆𝒅𝒊𝒂!”

⚠️ Instead of listening, authorities unleashed 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗴𝗮𝘀, 𝗿𝘂𝗯𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗯𝘂𝗹𝗹𝗲𝘁𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.💔 On 8 September 2025, at least 𝟭𝟵 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗱 — most of them youth. At least 347 people were injured  — with dozens in critical condition from bullet wounds.

⚡ In the wake of the bloodshed, the people’s uprising forced change:

  • The social media ban was lifted.

  • On 9 September 2025, Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli resigned, after three ministers quit in protest.

But 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗲𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵. 𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘂𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗱.

🖤𝗪𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗹𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗹𝗶 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲’𝘀 𝗥𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗼𝗺 𝗼𝗳 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗯𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱. 𝗨𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘃𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗹𝗮𝘄.

✊🏽 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗡𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱:

1️⃣ Accountability for the killings

2️⃣ An end to corruption & impunity

3️⃣ Respect for their Right to Protest & Free Expression

4️⃣ A democracy that serves the people, not the elites

✊🏽 As decolonial intersectional feminists, we at Manushya stand in 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 with Nepal’s youth. They are fighting not just against corruption and censorship — but for their lives, dignity, and democracy.

📣 The world must not look away. Spread their voices.
