We respond to the preliminary report of the UN’s Independent International Scientific Panel on Artificial Intelligence. To say this report was a disappointment is an understatement.
It gathers damning evidence that AI capital is concentrated in the hands of tech corporations, whilst vulnerable users are harmed by business models built to extract attention, labour, data and natural resources.
But instead of confronting ownership and Big Tech power, the report retreats into the usual laundry list of technocratic, market-friendly fixes whilst leaving the architecture of power intact.
You have the evidence, now we need political will. 🤷🏻♀️
