“Enforced disappearances are truly a preferred weapon of the Lao government to silence dissenters.” – Emilie Palamy Pradichit, Lao woman human rights defender and Founder & Executive Director of Manushya Foundation
In an interview with Radio France Internationale (RFI), published 22 February (the same day as Laos’ national elections), Emilie warned about escalating repression in the country following the disappearance of vocal Lao state critic Bao Mo Khaen, also known as “Mr. Khaen”.
Emilie emphasized, “All enforced disappearances in Laos remain unsolved cases. No justice for the families, no accountability from the Lao state.”
🚨 Today, the worst has been confirmed: Mr. Khaen is dead.
We are outraged! As Emilie’s statement highlighted, 𝗠𝗿. 𝗞𝗵𝗮𝗲𝗻'𝘀 𝗱𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗱𝘆. It reflects a deepening crisis of shrinking civic space in Laos, where dissenting voices face intimidation, disappearance, and deadly consequences.
We demand truth and accountability.
