SPOTLIGHT on the Student-Led Pro-Democracy Rallies in Thailand

DEMOCRACY: On the evening of 18 July 2020, students & youth took to the streets to protest against the Thai Government. The #เยาวชนปลดแอก movement of 18 July inspired pro-democracy protests around the country demanding (1) a stop to government threats against critics, (2) the immediate dissolution of parliament, and (3) amendments to the military constitution.

Thailand, long battered with violent street protests and military coups, now faces the economic aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic. Protesters slam the unnecessary extension of the emergency law and the government's crackdown on dissidents.
