✊ In honor of this occasion, we are paying a tribute to Justice Cecilia Munoz-Palma, the first female Supreme Court Judge in the Philippines. Cecilia claimed the space she had been excluded from as a woman and led her country closer to freedom and democracy!

📍 In her career as a judge, Cecilia strongly advocated for the rule of law, constitutional order, and human rights. Later, she even became one of the leading opposition figures to the dictator Ferdinand Marcos!

✍️ Rule of law and the judiciary system are the cornerstone of democracy, freedom, and equality, but they have not always been in favor of addressing various forms of gender-based violence and systemic misogyny. Increased representation of women judges is needed to guarantee our legal system works for everyone.

This is a meaningful tribute to Justice Cecilia Munoz-Palma and her contributions to human rights, democracy, and equality. After reading inspiring stories like this, I often spend some time playing World Guesser which is a geography game where you explore locations and guess where they are, while learning more about different parts of the world.
