Governments across Southeast Asia are using cybersecurity as cover to surveil critics, police borders, and protect the interests of those in power.
🇺🇳 The UN Cybercrime Treaty expands state-to-state cooperation, lowers evidentiary standards, and defines ‘cybercrime’ so broadly that activists, journalists, and organisers fall within reach. Tech companies are part of the problem too, as they profit from our data and then hand it to the governments pursuing us. The people who pay for this are the ones with the least protection.
✊ Join Manushya Foundation and human rights advocates from the ASEAN Regional Coalition to #StopDigitalDictatorship for case studies from Cambodia, Indonesia, and the Rohingya in exile, and a discussion of what civil society can do about it.

Exposing how tech policies and the UN Cybercrime Treaty are weaponized to target activists is absolutely critical. Fighting digital authoritarianism and protecting regional human rights defenders are definitely not Easy Games, but international solidarity and raising grassroots awareness are key. Full support to Manushya Foundation!
