Thailand’s own law promises: No torture, no forced returns. So why does it keep sending people back to danger? On the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, we expose how Thailand is violating Section 13 of its 2023 Anti-Torture Act and enabling acts of transnational repression.
⚖️ Refoulement means forcing someone back to a country where they face real risk of torture, violence, or persecution.
Thai and international law explicitly prohibit this. Yet Thailand continues to cooperate with authoritarian governments under false narratives of diplomacy and security.
The cases we present here are not isolated. Together with over 150 documented cases of abuse against exiled defenders, they prove that 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗔𝘀𝗶𝗮’𝘀 𝗛𝘂𝗯 𝗼𝗳 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻. 🌏
As decolonial and intersectional feminists, we call on Thailand to:
⚖️ Uphold the Anti-Torture Act!
🛡️ Respect non-refoulement!
🛑 Stop Transnational Repression!
