#Feminism: “Slut” is a social construct that perpetuates the double standard between men and women.

👄👠 “Slut” is a social construct that perpetuates the double standard between men and women.

👗👚The way a woman dresses should only concern her, but it often ends up being somebody else’s business. The same goes for sex. She is judged for not being respectable if she enjoys having one-night stands instead of “saving it for the right man”.

🗯In our patriarchal society, women are brought up to be modest, submissive, and dependent on men. When they do not conform to gender norms, they fall prey to slut-shaming, criticism, and bullying. However, these deeply-ingrained stereotypes are not women’s natural traits and we as a society can unlearn them.

💢 Beyond control of women bodies, slut-shaming is also an essential tool for victim-blaming and rape culture. Those facing sexual assault or harassment are blamed for “asking for it”, if they show too much skin or are considered to have loose sexual morals to begin with.

#WeAreManushyan ♾️ Equal Human Beings

🧡💗 At Manushya Foundation, we believe women deserve freedom in all aspects of life. Encouraging women to embrace their sexuality is a good start, but it’s not enough. We need to call for men and society overall to respect women’s autonomy and resist the objectification of female bodies. This has to be our priority if our wish is to live in a world where women are treated as Equal Human Beings. ✊
