In an article published on 25 February in Le Monde, journalist Brice Pedroletti features Lao human rights lawyer and Manushya Foundation Founder & Executive Director Emilie Palamy Pradichit, who warns of a chilling pattern of “accidents” facing government critics.
“Several critical voices have been found dead in circumstances described as accidents… Investigations lack transparency, official conclusions are brief and unconvincing, and no accountability is ever established.”
Mr. Khaen, a vlogger who boldly denounced corruption, was found dead on 20 February beside his scooter.
⚠️ Authorities say it was an “accident.”
But the timeline of his disappearance and reported abduction suggest otherwise.
And across Laos, the pattern tells a far more troubling story.
As Emilie Palamy highlights, while formal proof directly linking these cases may still be absent, the frequency and similarities reveal “a recurring pattern of impunity and troubling similarities”. This raises serious red flags for human rights defenders.
🚨 When outspoken critics repeatedly die in questionable “accidents,” the climate of fear only deepens.
How many more deaths must look staged before the alarm bells ring?
We refuse to look away!
Never forget these injustices. We continue our calls:
We demand truth and accountability from the Lao state!
Justice for Mr. Khaen! ✊
Justice for all enforceably disappeared and silenced Lao activists!
