International Day of the Disappeared: Where is Sombath, Somchai, and Od? Why do Laos and Thailand still refuse to answer?

#InternationalDayOfTheDisappeared 🚨 𝗘𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗼𝗿 𝗯𝘆 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻. Authoritarian states use it as a weapon to silence activists and condemn their families to years, even decades, of uncertainty amounting to psychological torture.

Borders offer no sanctuary. 🌏❌ Enforced disappearance has become one of the most brutal forms of transnational repression (TNR).

🇹🇭 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗯𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿; 𝗶𝗻 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁, 𝙞𝙩 𝙝𝙖𝙨 𝙗𝙚𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙖 𝙏𝙉𝙍 𝙝𝙪𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙜𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙.

Lao and Vietnamese dissidents, including UNHCR-recognised refugees, have been targeted or abducted on Thai soil. Some later resurfaced in the custody of the very States they fled. All these acts violate Thailand’s own Anti-Torture Act and its international human rights obligations.

To the regimes orchestrating these abductions and the governments hosting them: silence is an admission of guilt. Until every family receives the truth and every perpetrator faces justice, we will never stop demanding: 𝗪𝗛𝗘𝗥𝗘 𝗔𝗥𝗘 𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗬?! ✊
