#𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝘁𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗮 🇮🇩 Protecting the Right to Protest: International Solidarity with Indonesia! #StopPoliceBrutality

🌏 Across the Globe, +250 Signatories Condemn State Violence and Demand Accountability for Indonesian Civilians!

On 25th - 29th August 2025, tens of thousands of civilians across #Indonesia mobilized to demand fair wages, end to mass layoffs, abolition of outsourcing, and stronger labor and democratic protections. The protests also highlight stark inequality over lavish parliamentary allowances amid the economic turbulence.

❌ However, the state responded with brutal repression resulting in hundreds of protesters injured, arbitrarily detained, and some killed. These acts are clear violations to Indonesia’s domestic laws and its international human rights obligations. Grave concerns also perceived through acts of silencing to media outlets and journalists,  tactics eerily reminiscent of Indonesian authoritarian practices in 1998 including practices of enforced disappearances.

We urgently call the international community to :

1️⃣ Condemn the excessive force and unlawful killings

2️⃣ Demand accountability from the Indonesian Government and police

3️⃣ Support the Indonesian civil society’s call to urgently ratify the Convention on Enforced Disappearances (ICPPED)

4️⃣ Uphold and protect the right to protest and freedom of dissent in Indonesia
