BREAKING: At least 35 dead in daycare mass shooting in Northeastern Thailand

⚠️ At least 35 people, mostly children, have died following a mass shooting at a childcare center in Nong Bau Lamphu province, Thailand.

📅 Today (6 October), several news outlets reported that a 34-year-old former police officer had bursted into the center and opened fire on children who were sleeping, as well as the nursery’s staff members. At least 22 young children were killed, while an upward of 50 people were injured.

🏠 After fleeing in a pick-up truck, the attacker returned home, shot his wife and child, and eventually committed suicide, according to the Daily News.

💊 Last year, the ex-officer was arrested for being in possession of narcotics and was consequently dismissed from duty. Only hours before the tragic incident, he was at a court hearing in connection to the drug case.

🛑 While mass shootings are uncommon in Thailand, this is not the first time it is launched by a member of law enforcement or military forces. Experts have expressed that this trend might be a result of accumulated stress from the nature of the duties and easy access to deadly weapons.
