International Anti Corruption Day 🌍 Exposing Corruption's Grip on Laos

💔 Today, we shine a light on Laos, where corruption is deeply embedded in the fabric of the nation. From business practices to government policies, it’s a system that harms its people and enriches the powerful.

⚠ Case in point: The Xe-Pian Xe-Namnoy hydropower disaster. On July 23, 2018, a dam collapse caused by negligence and greed killed 71 people, displaced 7,000, and left devastation in its wake. But the Lao government’s response? A cover-up. They’re more interested in protecting foreign investors than taking care of their own citizens.

⛔ Justice remains out of reach for survivors. Promised compensation was pocketed by corrupt officials, and aid was barely delivered, leaving thousands to suffer. Manushya Foundation continues to hold these powers accountable, pushing for justice and transparency, because the people of Laos deserve better than to be treated as collateral damage.
