Step aside “experts”, the next step towards a people-led UPR movement is here. And it’s being led by those actually on the ground.
Day 1 of “Turning Collective Voices into Evidence-Based Advocacy: Finalizing Thailand’s UPR IV Civil Society Submissions” brought together 67 grassroots activists from across Thailand, united by one goal: to bring their communities’ voices to the global stage 🌏
As the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights calls for civil society’s inputs to review Thailand’s human rights record (UPR IV), activists are stepping up as authors of their own narratives.
From LGBTQIA+ and abortion rights advocates to Indigenous women and labour rights defenders, our diverse participants joined the regional UPR capacity and feminist movement-building workshops we organised over the past months and have decided to take the next step.
Grateful to our partners Young Pride Foundation, MovED, and LBTQ+ Wellbeing for helping create a safe space for these courageous defenders 🤝

I’ve noticed that I write much better when I’m genuinely interested in the question instead of picking the first topic that comes to mind. Even a simple assignment can become interesting once there’s something personal or debatable about it. I sometimes look through interesting college essay topics when I need inspiration, then change the idea completely to fit my own experience and point of view. That usually gives me a much better starting point.
