"This is really a matter of life or death." — Emilie Palamy Pradichit, Founder & Executive Director, Manushya Foundation
The abrupt suspension of USAID funding has left thousands of vulnerable individuals in crisis across Southeast Asia. In an interview with journalist Valentin Cebron for Radio France Internationale (RFI), our Founder & Executive Director, Emilie Palamy Pradichit, revealed the devastating impact of this funding cuts on refugees and human rights defenders:
💔 “It’s an emotional shock because I don’t know how to continue protecting the refugees.” — Emilie Palamy Pradichit, Founder & Executive Director, Manushya Foundation
⚠️ Due to the cuts, Manushya Foundation has been forced to lay off staff—and is struggling to sustain its support for democracy and political activists in hiding for a little longer.
🏠 In March this month, 35 refugees and their families, including young children, will have to leave Manushya’s safehouses because we can no longer afford rent. Many fear acts of transnational repression, including deportation—or worse, assassination—by neighboring authoritarian regimes hunting them down.
As repressive governments grow stronger, the most vulnerable are left defenseless. The USAID funding freeze is more than a political decision; it is a direct threat to lives.
📢 We urgently call on the international community to step up and fill this funding gap before it’s too late!

Emilie Palamy Pradichit's powerful statement about life or death underscores the critical importance of human-centered work. For those of us in architecture and community planning, having the right tools to quickly visualize inclusive designs can make all the difference. I'm exploring an AI design visualization tool to help bring these visions to life.
Emilie's powerful words remind us that for many, human rights advocacy truly is a matter of life and death. It’s inspiring to see organizations like Manushya giving a platform to these urgent voices — sometimes creative expression can be the most impactful way to amplify them, which is why I’ve been using a Graffiti Generator to turn my own solidarity messages into bold street-art style posters.
