Lao Government’s Guide to Women's Rights: Say Everything, Do Nothing

So, why is CEDAW so crucial for us, the Women of Laos? 🤔

  1. Legal Framework: CEDAW provides a comprehensive framework for governments to follow, ensuring that women's rights are recognised and protected. By ratifying CEDAW, countries commit to taking actionable steps to improve the status of women.

  2. Accountability: The treaty holds governments accountable for their actions (or inactions) regarding women's rights. This means that if the Lao government fails to address gender discrimination, they are answerable to the international community.

  3. Truth-Telling: CEDAW powers women by promoting their participation in political, economic, and social life. For women in Laos, this means a chance to have a voice in decisions that affect their lives and communities.

Despite these promises, the Lao government continues to ignore its obligations under CEDAW, often fabricating stories about its commitment to women’s rights. But don’t worry, as we prepare to present our very own CEDAW report, we’ll shine a light on these injustices and demand accountability. We refuse to let the government’s empty promises dictate our future!
