Sex Workers Are Equal Workers! #SexWorkIsWork

🚨 Today, Empower Foundation along with advocates for sex workers' rights came to protest & pile up boxes of high heels in front of the Government House to demand COVID-19 financial compensation for everyone, including sex workers. ❌ Unlike other workers, sex workers are unable to get financial compensation through Social Security Fund as they are not eligible to be insured under Section 40.

📍 The protesters released a statement calling for a 5,000 THB monthly compensation to support sex workers until the businesses start to operate again as there was no response from the Government after the previous requests. The Government MUST stop leaving sex workers behind! They are Equal Human Beings with Equal Rights to get compensation and state welfare!

💪🏻 Manushya Foundation calls on the Thai government to implement the 2019 recommendation of the UN Working Group on Business & Human Rights and the 2017 Concluding Observations of the CEDAW Committee (monitoring the implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women) to decriminalize sex work and extend labour laws and social benefits to all enterprises in the entertainment sector.
