#StandwithBach on the 1 year anniversary of Bach’s sentencing.

🌱 Dang Dinh Bach (“Bach”) is a prominent environmental justice lawyer in Vietnam who dedicated his life to helping improve the health and well-being of marginalized communities throughout the country.

🚨 January 24 marks one year since he was wrongly sentenced by the Vietnamese government to 5 years in prison on “tax evasion” charges, after he led a campaign to reduce Vietnam’s reliance on coal. These unwarranted charges aim at silencing environmental defenders.

🛑 Whereas climate change solutions require governments, businesses, and civil society to work together, Vietnam is conducting a systematic silencing of climate leaders, and has made ‘Bach’ a victim of this wrong policy.

📍G7 countries just gave Vietnam $15.5 billion to transition to clean energy while Vietnam’s top climate experts remain in jail. Vietnam must stop silencing of climate leaders and work hand in hand with them!

⚖️ "Our family has been living in a state of confusion and worry for the health and life of my husband", said Bach's wife Tran Phuong Thao.

✊ Manushya stands in complete solidarity with ‘Bach’ and his family and friends, and urges the Vietnamese government to release him immediately. Civil society must be free for Vietnam to achieve a true #JustEnergyTransition!
