At Manushya Foundation, we know that 𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿.It shapes whose voices are amplified, whose truths are erased, and how knowledge itself is defined.

🪶🌺 As a 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗙𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁, 𝗺𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗮𝗹, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲, we embrace the uncomfortable but necessary work of reconciling our communication styles every day. This is not just English versus Southeast Asian languages… 𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗹𝗮𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝘄𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝘃𝗲𝘀: 𝒕𝒉𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉 𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒅𝒔, 𝒕𝒐𝒏𝒆𝒔, 𝒔𝒊𝒍𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆𝒔, 𝒃𝒐𝒅𝒊𝒆𝒔, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒂𝒈𝒆.

🖤 English, while often necessary, carries the weight of colonisation.💬 It cannot always capture the emotions, concepts, or truths of Southeast Asian lived experiences.

✊ That’s why 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗮𝗴𝗲 is at the heart of our work: reimagining communication that makes space for difference, deference, and disagreement, while honouring our local languages and cultures.

🫂 On 25 August, we came together with our sisters at 𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘆𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀 🌱— a Thai LBQ feminist collective building care systems rooted in justice. Together, with our feminist leaders, sisters, and intern, we held a 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗶𝗿𝗰𝗹𝗲 in Thai and English — opening difficult yet healing conversations about trust, cohesion, and embracing our differences.
