📑 We have just submitted a report to the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to a Clean, Healthy and Sustainable Environment exposing the devastating impacts of the Luang Prabang Dam on Laos’ environment, communities, and cultural heritage.

🇱🇦 As Laos aims to operate 100 dams by 2030 in its bid to become the “Battery of Southeast Asia,” this so-called development is threatening a UNESCO World Heritage Site and displacing more than 500 families—without proper consultation or compensation.

⚠️ They call iT #CleanEnergy. We call it CULTURAL DESTRUCTION! It’s a #scam.

🚨 What’s happening?

📍 The dam is just 25 km upstream from Luang Prabang, a historic riverside town recognized by UNESCO.

📍 Built by CH Karnchang, a Thai company linked to the controversial Xayaburi dam—criticized for blocking fish migration and sediment flow in the Mekong river.

📍 It’s being constructed near an active fault line, risking lives and ecosystems.

📍 Once built, it will alter the Mekong’s flow, turning the vibrant riverside city into a lakeside town, erasing cultural identity.

⚠️ Despite warnings from ICOMOS, IUCN, and UNESCO, the project is already 30% complete.

🛑 This is NOT a just transition.

📣 We call on the Lao government to:

❌ Cease all dam development until an independent, rights-based impact assessment is conducted.

🔍 Respect human rights and protect ecosystems in all energy projects.

🌏 Stop sacrificing communities for corporate gain.

✊ Together, let’s stand for people over profit—because true climate action must protect communities, cultures, and ecosystems.
