#SaveYok 🔴 In her own words: Yok speaks about perilous threats to her right to education

Under the unfair political and justice systems in Thailand, Youth pro-democracy activists face severe repercussions for their activism. Yok is one of them. She has been judicially harassed, met with excessive force by the authorities, and stripped of her right to education.


Calling for monarchy reforms and being vocal about the problematic authority of Thai courts have had profound consequences not only on her right to liberty, as she was detained for 51 days, but also on her right to education. Deemed “unsafe” by her teachers, Yok has been monitored by the police near the school, and harassed inside its walls. After she was classified as lacking a student status, the school allowed a group of women police officers to enter its premises to reportedly “ensure the students and teachers’ safety.” The school even submitted a letter to the Senate, claiming that by attending classes without a student status and refusing to wear uniforms, Yok is causing concerns among other parents regarding students’ safety.


Despite ultimately granting her permission to participate in exams “to prevent public disorder,”

the school clarified that the results will not be officially recorded as her registration is incomplete. Invoking the incomplete registration justification is very disturbing, as Thailand is forcing Yok to decide between education and freedom of speech–two essential human rights that must be protected.


Prohibiting rights to activists will only lead to further problems for the Thai people because education is vital to a society's progress.

#Saveหยก 🔴เสียงจากหยก: เมื่อการเรียกร้องทางการเมืองหมายถึงการสูญเสียศึกษา


เพราะระบบการเมืองและระบบยุติธรรมไทยบิดเบี้ยว นักกิจกรรมเยาวชนจึงต้องเจอกับผลกระทบมากมาย และหยกก็เป็นหนึ่งในนั้น เธอถูกคุกคามด้วยกระบวนการทางกฎหมาย ถูกตำรวจใช้ความรุนแรงในการจับกุม และถูกลิดรอนสิทธิการศึกษา





หยกไม่เคยเกรงกลัวที่จะเรียกร้องเพื่อการปฏิรูปสถาบันกษัตริย์ หรือพูดถึงปัญหาความไม่เป็นอิสระของศาล แต่สิ่งที่หยกต้องเจอคือสิทธิขั้นพื้นฐานของเธอถูกละเมิด หยกถูกจำคุกในบ้านปราณีถึง 51 วัน ส่วนโรงเรียนก็มองว่าเธอ “ไม่ปลอดภัย” ต่อสภาพแวดล้อมการเรียน อีกทั้งอยู่ถูกตำรวจติดตามและเฝ้าดูถึงหน้าโรงเรียนและในโรงเรียน หลังจากที่โรงเรียนประกาศว่าหยกไม่มีสถานะเป็นนักเรียน ตำรวจคุมฝูงชนได้รับอนุญาตให้เข้าไปถึงในโรงเรียนเพื่อ “ดูแลความปลอดภัยของบุคลากรในโรงเรียน” ยิ่งไปกว่านั้น โรงเรียนได้ส่งหนังสือถึงส.ว. เรียกร้องให้เข้ามาช่วยแก้ไขปัญหาเรื่องหยก โดยอ้างว่าหยกสร้างความหวาดกลัวและสร้างความกังวลในหมู่ผู้ปกครอง จากการไม่ยอมใส่ชุดนักเรียนและเข้าเรียนโดยมีสถานะเป็น “คนนอก”


ล่าสุด ทางโรงเรียนอนุญาตให้หยกเข้าสอบได้ โดยให้เหตุผลว่า “เพื่อป้องกันไม่ให้เกิดเหตุความไม่สงบ” แต่จะไม่มีการเก็บคะแนนเนื่องจากหยกมอบตัวไม่สมบูรณ์ การที่โรงเรียนยกประเด็นเรื่องการมอบตัวมาเป็นเหตุผลเช่นนี้ถือว่าน่ากังวลอย่างยิ่ง เนื่องจากประเทศไทยกำลังบังคับให้หยกเลือกระหว่างการศึกษา หรือเสรีภาพในการแสดงออก ซึ่งทั้งสองเป็นสิทธิมนุษยชนขั้นพื้นฐาน


ถ้าประเทศไทยจำกัดและลิดรอนสิทธิของนักกิจกรรม จะมีแต่สร้างปัญหาในระยะยาว เพราะการศึกษาเป็นปัจจัยสำคัญที่จะทำให้สังคมขับเคลื่อนไปข้างหน้าได้
